The volunteer program for the World Youth Festival Assembly was Tuesday launched in Nizhny Novgorod with 450 volunteers from 54 regions of Russia onboarded to support the work of the international youth platform.

Speaking during the opening of the ceremony, the Director General of the World Youth Festival Directorate, Dmitry Ivanov underscored the importance of having volunteers in an event noting that: “Volunteers are the foundation of any event: you create its atmosphere, ensure the smooth operation of all services, and represent Russian hospitality to our foreign friends. Your energy, responsiveness, and professionalism are the key to the success of our common cause”

“The launch of the volunteer corps marks the imminent start of the World Youth Festival Assembly! We were impressed by your response: 3,700 people wanted to help organize this large-scale international youth event. We selected 520 of the most active candidates for the volunteer corps: 450 people will work at the venue, and 70 will meet guests at Moscow’s airports and train stations.” Ivanov noted.

On her part, Svetlana Anufrieva, Minister of Youth Policy of the Nizhny Novgorod Region, pledged to support the volunteers even as she wished them strength, health, and good spirits for all the days of the Assembly.

“Volunteers from 54 regions of Russia have come to us in Nizhny Novgorod. And we can already feel their energy and their desire to help. It is very important to us that all volunteers feel comfortable and enjoy their time in our city, as they carry a great responsibility to welcome and assist not only guests from other regions of the country but also, of course, a large number of international participants. It is the volunteers who are the face of the Gathering and those who interact directly with the participants, creating comfortable conditions for them. Therefore, we will support our volunteers and will always be by their side. We wish them strength, health, and good spirits for all the days of the Assembly,” said Anufrieva.

Volunteers will assist in nine functional areas: transportation and logistics, media relations, accreditation, flow management, protocol service, catering, program implementation, language services, and information services.

Before the start of the World Youth Festival, volunteers underwent online training and studied the basics of the volunteer code, the rules for interacting with different categories of guests, and immersed themselves in the meaning of the event.

Upon arriving at the festival venue, volunteers began training in their functional areas: they familiarized themselves with the tasks at the venue, practiced interacting with participants, and analyzed practical case studies.

Anastasia Mokrushova, creator of the unofficial anthem for young people of the Nizhny Novgorod Region this summer, performed for the volunteer corps participants under her creative pseudonym KOZ.A.

The volunteers were also treated to a performance by Anastasia Baukina, a resident of the “Vysota” art residence, participant in the All-Russian music laboratory for music authors “Dynamics,” and winner of a special project of the Presidential Fund for Cultural Initiatives for creators of audiovisual content, who performed the song “Yasno Solnyshko” (The Sun is Shining).
