Bernard Chepkwony and Hellen Chepkorir emerged winners of the Standard Chartered Nairobi Marathon after winning the men’s and women’s 42km races respectively during the 22nd edition of the marathon held Sunday in Nairobi.
Bernard Chepkwony posted 2 hours 11 minutes and 11 seconds, one of the fastest times recorded in the event to win the men’s race ahead of Alex Chepkwiik Saakwo and Ezekiel Kemboi Omullo who finished in second and third positions in 2 hours 11 minutes and 26 seconds and 2 hours 11 minutes and 40 seconds respectively.
Hellen Chepkorir won the women’s race cutting the tape after 2 hours 27 minutes and 17 seconds and was closely followed by Naomi Chepkorir who finished second in 2 hours 27 minutes and 37 seconds while Scholastica Jepkemboi completed the podium dash in 2 hours 29 minutes and 18 seconds.
In the women’s half marathon, Karen Wainaina claimed victory in 1:10:40, ahead of Fridah Rerimoi 1:14:23 and Winny Chebet 1:15:21.
In the men’s category Joshua Githuku emerged the winner with a time of 1:02:35, followed by Nahashon Kipsang in 1:03:31 and Gilbert Koririn 1:03:34.
Over 32,000 runners and 200 elite athletes took part in the race …….UPSOUND KIBE/DAVID……The competition drew both public and corporate participants who took part in support the race’s charitable course as well as promote healthy lifestyle.
Kenya Broadcasting corporation fielded a team of 10 athletes who participated in this year’s edition promising to have a laerger representation in next years race.
Winners in the 42km race received Ksh2Million while half marathon victors were awarded Ksh.300,000.
