China has reaffirmed its commitment to collaborating with the international community to implement the Global Governance Initiative (GGI), recently proposed by President Xi Jinping and which seeks to create a more just and equitable global governance system that fosters shared prosperity for all humanity.
Speaking during the Lanting Forum on Implementing the Global Governance Initiative in Beijing, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Foreign Minister Wang Yi expressed China’s readiness to fully deliver and realize the GGI’s objectives and to promote solidarity, fairness, and multilateralism in addressing today’s global challenges.
“China stands ready to work with the international community, fully deliver the Global Governance Initiative, build a more just and equitable global governance system, and jointly usher in a brighter tomorrow for humanity,” Wang Yi stated.
Wang described the GGI as a timely and visionary response to the world’s pressing governance challenges. He noted that the initiative is grounded in the principles of the U.N. Charter, reflects the esteemed traditions of Chinese diplomacy, and provides “a Chinese answer to the questions of our time.”
According to Wang, the GGI enhances the understanding of global governance by proposing reforms based on cooperation, fairness, and inclusivity rather than confrontation or unilateralism.
“It is a new major global public good contributed by China. The GGI responds to the needs of the world and wishes of the people. It promises much-needed stability and provides certainty for this volatile world, and has received swift and clear support from more than 140 countries and international organizations,” the Chinese Foreign Minister commented.
He highlighted that the GGI calls for stronger global solidarity, a reaffirmation of multilateralism, and a vision for a fairer international order.
Wang Yi reiterated that China will work with all countries through equal consultation and open-minded engagement to reform and improve, rather than replace, the existing international system. He noted that reform must be gradual, inclusive, and beneficial to all nations, particularly those in the developing world.
“China will engage consistently in equal consultation, listen to different views, and take useful advice with an open mind to build maximum consensus. China will promote global governance reform with gradual and sustained effort to make it beneficial to the whole world,” Wang stated.
The Foreign Minister urged countries to focus on common development by ceasing the politicisation of trade, tariff wars, and market fragmentation. He asserted that global development should return to the forefront of the international agenda, with all nations mobilising resources for equitable growth and sustainable progress.
“China will open its doors ever wider to share development opportunities with more countries and peoples,” he added.
Wang underscored China’s commitment to the Global South, stating that Beijing will continue to advocate for the realignment of IMF and World Bank quotas to better represent developing countries. He emphasized the need to make special arrangements for Africa, ensuring that the continent’s aspirations are prioritized in U.N. Security Council reforms.
“Upholding the right direction of the reform of the Security Council means to increase the representation and voice of developing countries. Special arrangements should be made to meet Africa’s aspiration as a priority,” he remarked.
Wang further called on developed nations to honour their emission reduction commitments and to enhance financial and technological support for developing countries during their green transition. He stated that China supports the U.N.’s central role in governing artificial intelligence and is committed to ensuring that AI benefits all humanity, particularly developing countries.
As the world marks the 80th anniversary of the United Nations, Wang reaffirmed China’s unwavering support for the U.N. system as the cornerstone of global governance. He called for enhanced cooperation in poverty reduction, education, health, and infrastructure, asserting that these areas remain essential for building a community with a shared future for mankind.
