We will deal with anyone who disrupts mini-polls, CS Murkomen warns

Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has affirmed a zero-tolerance approach to any attempts to disrupt the elections, stating that security agencies will act decisively against any form of unrest.

Addressing the press in Kasipul Wednesday morning, Murkomen noted that the National Police Service (NPS) is prepared to arrest goons or criminals intending to disrupt peaceful elections in our country.

He assured the public of robust security measures and urged voters to confidently turn out in large numbers to exercise their democratic rights scheduled for 27th November 2025 in 24 electoral areas.

At the same time, the National Police Service (NPS) has assured the public of maximum security.

In a statement, NPS Spokesperson Muchiri Nyaga noted that they are working closely with the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) in order to facilitate a peaceful, free, fair and credible electoral process.

“In the upcoming by-elections on November 27th 2025, the NPS reiterates its unwavering commitment to executing its duties impartially, professionally and in strict adherence to the Constitution, in order to facilitate a peaceful, free, fair and credible electoral process”, NPS said in a statement.

It added “Furthermore, the NPS is working closely with the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) as per the law. The public is assured that adequate security shall be deployed for the attainment of the set objective”.

Nyaga also urged politicians to refrain from utterances that that could trigger violence warning that stern action will be taken against anyone found culpable.

“Moreover, all political leaders are specifically called upon to desist from utterances that are inciteful to violence or bear hatred of whatever form. They should further refrain from making statements that could be interpreted as threatening or defamatory, or that undermine public confidence in our institutions” he said.

“We further ask all political leaders to be respectful and cooperate with the electoral officials so as to deliver a credible and accountable exercise” he urged.

The by-elections will be conducted in Baringo County senatorial seat and Banissa, Kasipul, Magarini, Malava, Mbeere, and Ugunja constituencies.

It will also be conducted in 17 wards across the country.

The seats have remained vacant for several months following the deaths, court nullifications, or the appointment of incumbents to other state positions.
