AFCON 2025:  King Mohammed VI congratulates the Atlas Lions after an exemplary continental campaign

The curtain fell on the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco on Sunday, January 18, 2026.

Defeated 1-0 by Senegal in the final, host country Morocco left the competition with honours after a run that was praised across the continent.

In the wake of this final, His Majesty King Mohammed VI sent a message of congratulations to the members of the Moroccan national team, finalists in the competition.

In this message imbued with pride and gratitude, the Sovereign expressed his warmest congratulations to the players, the technical, medical, and administrative staff, as well as the officials of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) for this honourable continental achievement.

“Through this distinguished career, you have demonstrated that perseverance, dedication, and team spirit are the path to achieving excellence,” His Majesty the King emphasised.

The Sovereign also highlighted the positive image projected by Morocco and African youth: “You have presented the world with an eloquent example of what Moroccan and African youth can achieve when they have confidence in their talents and abilities.”

In his message, the King also emphasised the strategic significance of this AFCON, highlighting the importance of the investments made by the Kingdom:

“Through your determination and your heroic and honourable performance, you have proven the relevance of our strategic vision focused on investment in human capital and infrastructure modernisation, which has demonstrated its world-class level of preparedness in view of hosting the 2030 World Cup.”

The Sovereign sees the successful organisation of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations as a strong message to Africa: “Hosting this prestigious championship, with high-quality organisation and warm hospitality, is not only a sporting achievement, but also a message of hope and confidence from Morocco to its continent, confirming that African talent is capable of excelling and innovating in all fields. ”

The King paid tribute to the Moroccan fans, whose commitment and enthusiasm accompanied the Atlas Lions throughout the competition.

Finally, he called on the players to continue their efforts to honour Moroccan football on the international stage, while assuring them of his high regard and benevolence.
