The spouse of the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga has urged Kenyans to honour his memory by carrying forward his legacy.

Speaking during the presentation of Raila Odinga memorabilia by the government, Mama Ida said the continued flow of visitors to their home and messages of sympathy months after his passing is a testament to the lasting impact of Raila’s life and work.

“Our home remains open. We are still receiving visitors and messages of condolence, and this will not end soon,” she said.

Ida described life with Raila as a great joy and lauded his role as head of the family.

“Now that he is gone, all we can do is carry forward his legacy and live according to his dreams,” she added.

She revealed that Raila’s request to be buried within 72 hours took the family by surprise and commended President William Ruto for stepping in to ensure the wishes were honoured.

“Everything had to be done very quickly, and we are grateful to President William Ruto, who ensured Raila’s wishes were respected,” Mama Ida said.

Foreign Affairs Principal Secretary Korir Sing’Oei said the condolence messages recognised Raila’s contributions to Kenya’s foreign policy, Pan-African solidarity, infrastructure-led integration, and Africa’s voice in global affairs.

“At critical moments, he chose dialogue over division, unity over discord, and the long-term good of the country over personal ambition,” Sing’Oei said.

The presentation ceremony brought together close family members, friends, government officials, and diplomats.
