The fifth edition of Nairobi Litfest is set to take place from May 8 to 10, 2026, bringing together writers, artists and thinkers for a “three-day celebration of ideas, creativity and conversation in Nairobi”.

Co-presented by Book Bunk and Hay Festival, the event will take place across public libraries, including McMillan Memorial Library, Kaloleni Library and Eastlands Library.

Since its launch in 2021, Nairobi Litfest has positioned itself as more than a “literary gathering, evolving into a cultural platform that connects communities with ideas through discussions, performances, masterclasses and book talks”, according to the event’s website.

The festival’s use of public libraries as venues is meant to highlight the importance of making creative expression accessible while transforming these spaces into vibrant cultural hubs.

This year’s edition is anchored on the theme “Speculative Cartography,” exploring how stories can reshape perspectives and map new possibilities across societies and cultures.

Organisers say the festival will examine connections between regions and disciplines, bringing together voices from literature, music, visual arts, technology and activism.

“The festival invites you to explore how storytelling can question representation, reimagine realities and spark new dialogues,” organisers said.

The programme is expected to feature around 50 participants, including local and international voices, engaging audiences through panels, readings and interdisciplinary conversations.
