Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has called upon Peter Munya (PNU), Justin Muturi (DP), and Lenny Kivuti (MBUS Party) to reassess their political association with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
Speaking while on a development tour of Tharaka Nithi County, Kindiki asserted that Munya, Muturi, and Kivuti have been subjected to disrespect and should therefore rejoin the government to collaborate with President William Ruto’s administration. He contended that the three leaders have a legitimate place within the current government and ought not to continue associating with individuals who, he claimed, show them no regard.
“Nimeona juzi ndugu zangu (Munya, Muturi na Kivuti) ambao walikuwa wameenda kutafuta hifadhi ya kisiasa kwa watu wengine wameanza kufanyiwa madharau. Mimi nataka kuwaambia wakuje tufanye kazi pamoja kwa sababu sisi ni kitu kimoja,” Kindiki stated.
The Deputy President further questioned their rationale for remaining associated with individuals he accused of insulting and disrespecting them.
“Kwa nini ukae mtu anakutusi, anakudharau na hakuheshimu? Hii madharau haijaanza leo. Hii madharau imekuwa kwa miaka. Lakini mimi naona siku ya madharau iko karibu kuisha. Sasa tunaenda katika siku za heshima,” he remarked.
Kindiki’s remarks come amid growing political realignments within the Mt Kenya region, where Munya of PNU, Muturi of the Democratic Party, and Kivuti of the MBUS party have been seeking to consolidate their political influence.
The three leaders came out this week and accused Gachagua of undermining them and their respective parties in the region, particularly following his calls for political parties to disband and merge with his Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP).
Kindiki encouraged the three leaders to work alongside the Ruto administration, hinting at the possibility of them securing significant government roles.
“Hao ndugu zangu waje wafanye kazi na mimi fireman, wengine tuwapatie bendera, wakue mawaziri, wengine vitu kubwa kubwa, hii ni serikali yetu, na sisi ndio kusema,” he said.
The Deputy President linked his appeal to the broader political interests of the Mt Kenya region, urging residents to support Ruto’s re-election bid in 2027. Kindiki argued that the region already holds the country’s second-highest political office through the Deputy Presidency, thus occupying a strategic position within the administration.
“Katika hii timu ya William Ruto, tuko number two. Na hatungojei sana. After next year, Rais Ruto akipata two term, tuko vizuri. Tukae hapa kwa serikali tujipange. So tupatie William Ruto kura,” Kindiki affirmed.
He contrasted the region’s standing within Ruto’s administration with what he characterised as its weaker position in alternative political formations.
“Hawa ndugu zangu ambao walishindwa kazi eti wanawatatufia urais, kule katika timu nyingine, kiti ya number one, number two na number three imeenda. Sisi tuko number twenty katika list ya ile upande mwingine,” he elaborated.
Kindiki also called on local residents to offer the government their full support, asserting that the administration belongs to them and that the region stands to gain from remaining aligned with the government.
“Katika hii area ya Embu, Meru na Tharaka Nithi, tunataka tuhakishe kwamba tume support serikali hundred percent kwa sababu hii serikali ni serikali yetu. Serikali ya William Ruto ni serikali yetu,” he said.
