The Desert Foxes of Algeria edged DR Congo 1-0 after extra time to surge into the quarter-final of the 35th edition of the ongoing African Cup of Nations in Morocco.

After a barren draw in 90 minutes in the last round of 16 match staged at the Moulay El Hassan stadium in Rabat, the contest was to be decided in an extra 30 minutes, with both sides creating little scoring opportunities.

However, two minutes from time, Adil Boulbina latched on to a cross from outside the box and produced a thunderbolt which swung into the net.

The victory ensured Algeria progress to the last 8 for the 1st time since 2019, when they won the tournament in Egypt, while DR Congo were left licking their wounds as they now shift focus to their World Cup intercontinental play-offs in Mexico in March.
