In a move aimed at deepening financial literacy and digital empowerment among Africa’s youth, Bitget, a leading global cryptocurrency exchange and Web3 platform, hosted its Kenya Community Education Day in downtown Nairobi earlier this month.
The event, part of Bitget’s ambitious Blockchain4Youth initiative, welcomed over 110 participants, ranging from students and crypto-curious individuals to local influencers and existing members of the Nairobi crypto community.
The Kenya Community Education Day is one of several similar events Bitget plans to organise across Africa and other emerging markets.
These grassroots efforts are designed not just to inform but to inspire young minds to take active roles in shaping a decentralised digital future.
Held in the heart of the Kenyan capital, the in-person educational event was designed to introduce young learners to blockchain technology, demystify the principles behind digital assets like Bitcoin, and provide a hands-on understanding of crypto wallets—an essential tool in the growing digital finance landscape.
As blockchain technology rapidly evolves from niche interest to mainstream financial infrastructure, Bitget’s focus on education underscores a broader vision: making the benefits of Web3 accessible to the next generation.
Through a series of live sessions, the event offered participants a clear roadmap to understanding the blockchain ecosystem.
Mathendu, a well-respected blockchain educator in the region, led the sessions.
He guided attendees through key topics, including the basics of blockchain technology, how cryptocurrencies function, and the crucial differences between custodial and non-custodial wallets.
The interactive format of the sessions encouraged questions and practical discussions, ensuring even the newest crypto enthusiasts left with actionable insights.
The presence of local Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs), Bitget affiliates, and seasoned users underscored a growing momentum around digital finance in East Africa.
Their involvement helped ground the event in community relevance and made the sometimes abstract world of blockchain more relatable for attendees.
Speaking about the initiative, Vugar Usi Zade, Bitget’s Chief Operating Officer, emphasised the broader purpose behind Blockchain4Youth.
“This isn’t just about education—it’s about opportunity,” he said. “By equipping young people with the knowledge and practical tools to navigate Web3, we are planting the seeds for a more inclusive and globally connected future.”
Launched in 2023, Blockchain4Youth is Bitget’s flagship global outreach program, backed by a $10 million fund. The initiative aims to impact thousands of students and young professionals through university collaborations, technical workshops, and community events.
With youth engagement in crypto growing across Africa, Bitget sees the continent as a critical region for expanding digital literacy and financial access.
Kenya is fast becoming a regional leader in digital asset adoption. With a tech-savvy, mobile-first population and increasing interest in alternative financial systems, blockchain and cryptocurrencies offer a viable path toward economic inclusion.
Bitget’s decision to bring its education initiative to Nairobi reflects this trend and signals its commitment to fostering local ecosystems.
With the Nairobi event marking another milestone in its expanding educational outreach, Bitget continues to position itself at the forefront of Web3 adoption.
Through its Blockchain4Youth initiative, the company is not only fostering a more informed crypto community but also empowering a new generation to shape the future of finance.
In alignment with its global impact goals, Bitget has partnered with UNICEF to support blockchain education for 1.1 million individuals by 2027.
The company is also the exclusive cryptocurrency exchange partner of MotoGP, highlighting its commitment to global engagement.
