The African Cup of Nations is a biennial tournament organised by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) and was incepted in 1957 in Sudan, then featuring only three teams.

It later expanded to 16 nations, which was further increased to 24 in 2019.

Egypt is the most successful team in the history of the tournament, having won the trophy a record 7 times, followed by Cameroon with 5 trophies, 1 more than Ghana.

Nigeria and Ivory Coast have it three times apiece, whereas Algeria and DRC Congo have each bagged three titles.

Tunisia, Sudan, Senegal, South Africa, Ethiopia, Morocco and the Congo have won one title each.
