CHAN 2024:Kenya hosts Morocco in a crucial quarter finals decider in a sold out match at Kasarani

Host Harambee Stars will take on two-time champions Atlas Lions from Morocco in the CAF African Nations Championship (CHAN) match on Sunday afternoon at the Moi International Sports Centre Kasarani in a Group A match.

The much anticipated match will kick off at 3pm and is expected to decide the fate of the group with Kenya leading on 4 points a point ahead of the North Africans who will be playing their 2nd match.

“Our main objective is to get through the first round and that means a victory against Kenya,” he declared on the eve of the match.The match against the host country will be approached with the same will and determination to seek the three points of victory.” Said Moroccan coach Tarik Sektioui

Kenya, meanwhile, are chasing history as a win would make them only the third debutant in CHAN history to reach the knockout stages.

“Morocco is a strong and organised team. It will be a tough match against one of the best teams not only in our group, but in the league,” Said Harambee Stars Coach Benni McCarthy .

It will be the first ever CHAN meeting between Kenya and Morocco but overall it will be the sixth meeting between the two sides ,the Atlas Lions winning three matches and the other two ending all square.

Morocco opened their campaign with a 2-0 win over Angola,while Kenya beat DR Congo 1-0 before settling for 1-1 draw against Angola on 2nd match.

Tickets for the 48,000 Kasarani stadium  seater match were sold out early this week ,with Kenya expected to be propelled  by the home support to achieve their historic quarter final qualification in their debut appearance.
