18-year-old Joan Chepkurui shook off stiff competition from Mercy Kirwa and Fancy Chepkorir to emerge the winner of the third edition of the Great Chepsaita Cross Country run (6 km, under 20 years category) held on Saturday in Uasin Gishu county.
“The course was very tough, and this was my first time competing here. I had prepared well for this race, and I’m happy to have won.” said Chepkurui
Chepkurui crossed the finish line in 21 minutes and 34 seconds, 0.14 seconds ahead of Kirwa, while Chepkorir completed the podium positions in 22:07.
The race organised by Farouk Kibet attracted over 8500 athletes from 21 different nationalities, with its main theme being running for education, and was elevated to a gold tour meet last year.
