Africa Women’s Volleyball Championship: Bullish KCB confident of regaining  continental title

The reigning national women’s Volleyball Champions KCB are confident of winning their third Africa Women’s Volleyball Club Championship title when the championship serves off April 1st-14th at Moshood Abiola Stadium,Abuja,Nigeria.

KCB guided by head coach Japheth Munala will come up against the continents powerhouses including defending champions Zamalek, Al Ahly, and Nigeria Customs Service among others.

The squad was flagged off Friday at KCB Sports Club, Ruaraka with the the team’s patron Judi Sidi Odhiambo said:

“As we step into this competition, I know the challenge ahead is tough. With powerhouses like Al Ahly, Zamalek, and other top teams in the mix, the battle will be fierce. I urge the team to remain confident, composed, and play the exceptional volleyball we all know of them. This year, we are here to make a statement once again, to reaffirm our place among the great of this sport.”

The team is set to depart on Tuesday. The squad includes: Edith Wisa, Mercy Moim, Lincy Jeruto, Josphine Nafula, Belinda Barasa, Pauline Chemutai, Sharon Serem, Juliana Namutira, Shirleen Maywa, Faith Cherotich, Marlene Terry, Deborah Jesang, Sheilah Wabwire and Fridah Boke.

KCB finished fourth last year after losing to counterparts Kenya Pipeline in the Bronze match play off.

“We have nurtured exceptional players who have showcased Kenya’s incredible depth of talent on the global stage. Stars like Mercy Moim, Edith Wisa, Juliana Namutira, and Belinda Barasa have made us proud, reinforcing our role in providing them with a platform to excel,” added Odhiambo.

24 teams have so far registered for the continental trophy including Zamalek,  Al Ahly, Nigeria Customes Service, AS Douanes Volleyball Club, Sococim Volleyball Club, Force Armees et Police, Litto Team Volleyball, Maya Kane Evolution, Spiking Stars Volleyball Club, Queen’s Volleyball Club.

KCB,Kenya Prisons and five time winners Kenya Pipeline will flag the Country’s flag at the 46th edition of the Championship.
