Information, Communication, and Digital Economy Cabinet Secretary William Kabogo has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to providing high-speed internet connectivity across all public institutions.
Speaking during a familiarisation tour of government offices at Sauti House in Mombasa, CS Kabogo announced that all government facilities will soon benefit from reliable and stable internet connections aimed at enhancing service delivery.
He also disclosed that plans are underway to restructure the Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (KBC) and the Kenya News Agency (KNA), with the goal of transforming them into world-class public information institutions.
He emphasised that no funds would be injected into the state broadcaster until a thorough clean-up is carried out.
” I am the guy who will make KBC an international broadcasting station. I’m telling you, it’s going to be possible, but we must clean up first”, he declared.
“I want to know the status of KBC operations countrywide so that we can take the necessary steps to make it a leading broadcasting station. That will be done,” he assured.
The CS pledged to ensure that the Kenya News Agency receives adequate funding to carry out its mandate effectively.
He said the ministry is considering plans to merge the Kenya Yearbook Editorial Board (KYEB) with the Kenya News Agency (KNA) to strengthen the dissemination of government development stories
Countrywide tour
The CS is on a countrywide tour of government facilities to ensure they are adequately connected to fast and stable internet for digital transformation countrywide.
“Earlier today, I visited the KBC and KNA main offices at the Coast Region and interacted with the staff who briefed me on areas that need improvement and infrastructural development. I ascertained that the internet connection in both institutions is stable for better operations and information interoperability, he said.
On the Taifa Care programme, managed by the Social Health Authority, Kabogo assured it is functioning effectively.
“It may not be perfect, but it is working,” the CS stated, expressing satisfaction with testimonials from patients at the Coast General Teaching and Referral Hospital.
To curb corruption and improve efficiency, CS Kabogo said that all government ministries will soon transition to paperless operations.
