Athletics Kenya has postponed its 1st track and field Weekend Meet, which was to be held on Saturday, 8th November, owing to the bad condition of the Mumias Sports Complex.

The venue was muddy due to the State function which was held at the venue on Friday, accompanied by heavy rains.

Athletes flocked to the stadium as early as 7 am; waiting to run were forced to wait until some minutes after 10 am to get the confirmation of the meet cancellation after the efforts from the organisers to clear the field proved futile.

Tents which were used for the State function on Friday were still on site with caterpillars trying to level the pitch to save the day, but it was too little too late.

The meet was initially slated for the 7th and 8th before being compressed to one day.

The postponement of the meet raises more questions than answers about the ability and readiness of Athletics Kenya regions to host the meets and clearly shows their inability to make quick and effective decisions without the indulgence of the national office.
