Veteran sportsman Eliud Siganga, fondly known as ‘Sigi’ in golfing circles, is set to take on the greens at the Nakuru Golf Club this weekend as the KCB East Africa Golf Tour gathers momentum.
Siganga, who has already clinched staff winner titles in both the Nyanza and Nandi legs this season, is expected to bring his signature power and precision to a course he describes as “favorable to my style of play.”
Siganga’s golfing journey is as compelling as his swing. A former rugby powerhouse, Sigi made his mark on the pitch with the University of Nairobi’s Mean Machine and Kenya Harlequins, bagging multiple Kenya Cup and Enterprise Cup titles throughout the ‘90s and early 2000s. He also featured for the national rugby 15s side, the Kenya Simbas, and served as Chairman of the Rhinos Rugby Franchise, steering them to Bamburi Rugby Super Series titles in 2003 and 2007.
But in 2009, a posting to Mumias town by his employer, KCB, changed the course of his sporting life. Surrounded by golf-loving friends from Mumias Sugar Company, Sigi tagged along to weekend tournaments, and the rest, as they say, is history. What began as a weekend curiosity has since evolved into a decorated golf career.
His credentials on the golf course are nothing short of impressive. Sigi is a two-time staff winner of the Nakuru leg of the KCB Golf Tour, in 2013 and again in 2024, demonstrating his consistency and experience at the venue. He also conquered the Kakamega and Nyanza editions in 2023, and most recently, was crowned the Inter Bank Golf Champion at Sigona in October 2023.
“I like Nakuru’s layout. It rewards tactical play and calm under pressure, two things I have worked on over time,” he said ahead of this weekend’s tee-off. His confidence is backed by his recent form and a deep understanding of the course terrain.
Beyond the fairways, Siganga’s leadership in sports and community initiatives continues to shine. He has previously served as Chairman of the Kakamega Sports Club, President of Lions Club Kakamega, and was a member of the Budget and Economic Forum for Kakamega County.
Siganga is expected to feature prominently in the upcoming Kakamega and Kisii legs of the KCB Tour as well, where he will seek to extend his winning streak and inspire more participation in the sport across Western Kenya.
