Saudi Arabia’s low-cost carrier Flynas plans to operate weekly flights between Riyadh and Nairobi beginning October this year as it aims to expand its network in Africa.
According to the airline, the new route will help position Nairobi as a strategic hub for travel between East Africa and the Middle East, strengthening connectivity for tourism, trade, and religious travel.
“By connecting Riyadh and Nairobi, we aim to make travel more convenient and affordable, support Kenya’s tourism sector, create new opportunities for businesses on both sides, and reinforcing flynas’ international network of destinations in Africa, within the growth and expansion plan, launched under the title We Connect the World to the Kingdom,” said Waleed Alahmed, flynas Director of Corporate Communications.
Alahmed said the Riyadh-Nairobi route further aligns with Saudi Arabia’s objectives of the National Civil Aviation Strategy which targets to enable national air carriers to contribute to connecting the Kingdom with 250 International destinations and to accommodate 330 million passengers and to host 150 million tourists yearly by 2030, and with the objectives of the Pilgrims Experience Program (PEP) to facilitate access to the Two Holy Mosques.
The service will also provide Kenyan travellers with direct access to Saudi Arabia for leisure, business, and pilgrimage, while also opening Kenya to more visitors and investors from the Kingdom.
Kenya now joins flynas’ growing African network, which already includes Addis Ababa, Entebbe, and Djibouti.
The expansion comes as Saudi Arabia deepens partnerships across Africa and supports regional growth through increased connectivity.
