Twenty-six foreign leaders will attend China’s V-Day commemorations in Beijing to mark the 80th anniversary of victory in the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War, at the invitation of President Xi Jinping, Assistant Foreign Minister Hong Lei announced on Thursday.
The commemorations will feature a grand military parade showcasing China’s armed forces, with participation from several world leaders, including Russian President Vladimir Putin, DPRK leader Kim Jong Un, Cambodian King Norodom Sihamoni, Vietnamese President Luong Cuong, Lao President Thongloun Sisoulith, Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto, Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Nepali Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, and others.
Also expected are leaders from Central Asia, Africa, the Middle East, and Europe, including Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic, Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel, and Myanmar’s Acting President Min Aung Hlaing.
In addition to heads of state, China has extended invitations to parliamentary leaders, deputy prime ministers, heads of international organisations, and former dignitaries.
As part of the celebrations, a gala will be held at the Great Hall of the People on the evening of September 3. Vice Minister of Culture and Tourism Lu Yingchuan confirmed that preparations are in the final stages, with artistic performances planned to honour veterans, award recipients, and citizens who contributed to the War of Resistance.
The gala will be attended by senior Party and state leaders, veterans, honorees, and members of the public, underscoring the national and international significance of the anniversary.
