Kenyan gospel musician Betty Bayo has died.

The artist, whose real name was Beatrice Wairimu Mbugua, passed away on Monday afternoon, November 10, 2025, while receiving treatment at Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) in Nairobi.

Her family confirmed that she had been admitted to the facility following complications from leukaemia. Efforts by doctors to stabilise her condition were unsuccessful.

Bayo rose to prominence with her hit song “11th Hour”, which became one of the most recognisable tracks in the Kikuyu gospel music scene. Through her uplifting lyrics and soulful delivery, she earned a loyal following among Christian audiences across Kenya and the diaspora.

The singer had two children from her previous marriage to pastor Victor Kanyari. She later remarried in 2021 in a traditional Kikuyu ceremony to Hiram “Tosh” Gitau.

News of her death has drawn messages of condolence from fans and fellow gospel musicians, many describing her as a gifted artist whose songs inspired hope and faith.

The family announced that her body has been moved to the Kenyatta University Teaching, Referral and Research Hospital mortuary as funeral arrangements begin.

More to follow.
