The Principal Secretary for Immigration and Citizen Services, Dr. Belio Kipsang, has condemned the destruction of vital government facilities, including a National Registration Bureau situated at the Deputy County Commissioner’s grounds in Ol Kalou, Nyandarua County, following violent demonstrations that erupted on Tuesday, June 25.
The unrest led to the destruction of over 1,000 national identity cards and two live capture biometric kits, among other essential government equipment, resulting in the disruption of key government services.
“Attacking the NRB office is attacking the soul of a nation,” Dr. Kipsang remarked. “These facilities anchor the identity, rights, and inclusion of our citizens. Their destruction undermines the ability of the government to serve and protect its people.”
PS Kipsang assured the public that emergency mobile registration will be deployed in the area to help affected individuals replace lost IDs. He urged residents to follow the due legal process for reissuance to ensure proper validation and protect the integrity of the identity ecosystem.
The PS emphasized the government’s commitment to data protection and the security of personal information.
“While physical infrastructure has been damaged, the government has put in place safeguards to ensure that citizen data is protected and recoverable,” he said.
He reiterated that while the government respects the constitutional right to peaceful protest, the destruction of public property undermines national progress and weakens institutional trust. He appealed to the youth, particularly the Gen Z generation, to channel their energy into structured and peaceful avenues. Accompanying him was the Secretary to the National Registration Bureau, Dr. Christopher Wanjau.
