The Government has issued a special gazette notice waiving charges for the replacement of identity cards and the modification of particulars for a period of six months.

Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen, who signed the notice, stated that the initiative aligns with President William Ruto’s directive, which aims to ensure that every Kenyan obtains this crucial document, serving as an essential gateway to government services and other opportunities.

“This waiver follows our other reforms, which include free issuance to first-time ID applicants, abolition of the extra-vetting requirement for border counties, and the scrapping of authentication fees for birth certificates when applying for IDs and passports,” the CS said in a statement.

He urged the public to take advantage of the waiver period to obtain their IDs.
