Nyandarua County has taken a significant step towards reducing infrastructure costs and accelerating modernization with the official opening of the Ol’Kalou Bulk Cabro Production Plant in Kaimbaga Ward.
The facility, launched by Governor Dr. Moses Kiarie Badilisha, is expected to cut paving costs for public utilities by more than 60pc.
Speaking at the inauguration, Governor Badilisha emphasized that the plant will play a key role in the county’s urban modernization agenda, which targets over ten major towns and numerous public utility facilities.
“The launch of this plant not only creates employment opportunities for our youth but also fast-tracks the modernization of our urban centers. Once the key towns are upgraded, we plan to extend cabro services to private citizens at affordable rates as a means of boosting county revenue,” the Governor stated.
In a separate address during an inspection tour of ongoing development projects in Huruma, Kaimbaga Ward, the Governor reiterated his commitment to transforming all settlements formal and informal into livable environments that support both small and large-scale businesses.
Huruma Estate, originally established as a colonial informal settlement, is undergoing a major facelift. The transformation includes new tarmacked roads, the installation of a modern sewerage system, a new retail market accommodating over 200 traders, and the installation of solar-powered street lighting all part of a project valued at over Ksh. 200 million.
The improvements fall under the Kenya Informal Settlement Programme (KISP), which also includes the upgrading of Gichagi Village in Njabini-Kiburu Ward.
The twin project, with a combined value of Ksh. 400 million, will benefit more than 700 households and provide similar infrastructure enhancements.
Governor Badilisha’s administration continues to focus on sustainable development, economic empowerment, and equitable urban growth across Nyandarua County.
