Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale flagged off a consignment of essential medicines and medical supplies worth Ksh 34 million from the Mission for Essential Drugs and Supplies (MEDS), destined for 140 health facilities across the six sub-counties in Uasin Gishu County.

This support complements the government’s efforts to advance Universal Health Coverage (UHC) by improving access to critical health commodities.

Speaking during the event, CS Duale updated the public on the benefits of the Social Health Authority (SHA) and announced plans to upgrade Ziwa Level 4 Hospital to Level 5 to ease pressure on Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH).

He, further, revealed that Uasin Gishu will benefit from new state-of-the-art equipment through the National Equipment Services Programme (NESP).

The CS encouraged counties to prioritize procuring medical supplies through the Kenya Medical Supplies Authority (KEMSA), citing ongoing reforms that have increased the Authority’s efficiency and achieved a 90pc order fill rate.

Later, the CS is expected to preside over the grand finale of the 15th KMTC National Sports Competition and commission the new KMTC Burnt Forest Campus—initiatives aligned with the Kenya Kwanza Government’s Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA) and the broader UHC goals.

CS Duale is accompanied by Principal Secretary for Public Health and Professional Standards Ms. Mary Muthoni and hosted by Uasin Gishu leadership led by H.E. Governor Dr. Jonathan Bii Chelilim, Senator Hon. Jackson Mandago, Ainabkoi MP Hon. Samuel Chepkonga, KMTC Board Chairperson Joseah Kiplangat, and CEO Kelly Oluoch.
