Kilifi County Referral Hospital has achieved a remarkable breakthrough with the successful delivery of its first-ever conjoined twins, marking a major milestone in Kenya’s health sector.

In a statement on Monday, Kilifi Governor Gideon Mung’aro revealed that the twins who were joined at the abdominal level were safely delivered following a complex procedure carried out by a dedicated multidisciplinary team led by Dr. Sumaiya (Gynecologist), Dr. Kadivani (Pediatric Surgeon), and Dr. Kalama (Pediatrician), with the invaluable support of our maternity and HDU nurses.

Both the mother and babies are stable and will be transferred to Kenyatta National Hospital for continued specialized care.

“I commend the entire medical team for their exceptional skill, teamwork, and dedication. This milestone demonstrates our hospital’s growing ability to manage complex medical cases and reinforces our commitment to quality maternal and child healthcare,” he said.

“As the County Government of Kilifi, we remain steadfast in ensuring that every resident has access to quality, affordable, and advanced healthcare services, while continuously investing in our medical facilities and professionals,” he added.

The Health Ministry lauded the dedicated team of doctors and nurses whose expertise and compassion made the procedure possible
