Lilian Kassait and guest athlete Festus Kiprop the winners of the 10km races in this year’s Prisons Service inter-regional cross-country championships held today at the Prisons staff training college in Ruiru.
Kassait, representing North Eastern, cut the tape in 33 minutes 48.5 seconds, 5.5 seconds ahead of recruit Rebecca Mwangi, who finished 2nd, while Caren Chebet of Coast completed the podium positions in 34 minutes 24.10 seconds.
Kiprop took the men’s race in 29 minutes 47.10 seconds, 1 sec ahead of another guest athlete Shadrack Koech, who finished 2nd.
Rift Valley’s Simon Itot took 3rd position in 30:10, while Charles Muneria of North Eastern finished 4th in 30:15.50.
Kenya Prisons Service used the event to select their team for the national cross-country championship/trials set for the 25th this month at the Eldoret Sports Club.
