The much-anticipated National Olympic Committee election was adjourned today for a period of two weeks after four member federations failed to unlock the stalemate on their voting delegates.

Despite the intervention of the outgoing president, Paul Target, to unlock the standoff, the Kenya Handball Federation, Kenya Volleyball Federation, Kenya Triathlon Federation and the Kenya Taekwondo Federation failed to agree on who should vote, forcing the NOC executive to postpone the last agenda of the election in today’s Annual General Meeting.

A total of 25 NOC-affiliated federations had been cleared to participate in today’s elections, which have sharply divided them into two functions: one led by outgoing 1st Vice President Shadrack Maluki against the current SG, Francis Mutuku, who wants to succeed Tergat, who has served his maximum 8 years in office.

The election agenda had to be delayed for hours waiting for the hearing and determination of various cases filed at the Sports Dispute Tribunal and the Court of Law challenging various eligibility criteria for both camps.

The NOC executive will go back to the drawing board and decide on the new date for the exercise in the next two weeks.

12 positions are up for grabs in the NOC elections, with the new office bearers set to serve for the next four years.
