Allies of President William Ruto from Ukambani have issued a stern warning to ODM leader Raila Odinga for advocating the abolition of the Senate oversight fund, NG-CDF, and NGAAF.
Led by Mwala MP and National UDA Organizing Secretary Vincent Kawaya, the lawmakers dismissed Raila’s stance, accusing him of going against the spirit of a broad-based government.
Kawaya described Raila’s position as ironic, noting that Raila, being one of the architects of NADCO, should not oppose its core principles.
Part of NADCO’s commitments includes the entrenchment of NG-CDF, NGAAF, and the Senate oversight fund in the Constitution, with Raila pushing in the opposite direction.
The UDA National Organizing Secretary warned Raila that he had crossed the “red line” and should desist immediately.
Kawaya emphasized that NG-CDF is part of national government revenue allocations and is not included in the share allocated to counties.
His sentiments were echoed by UDA-nominated Senator Tabitha Mutinda, who cautioned that it was wrong for Raila to attempt to silence the Senate, whose primary mandate is overseeing devolution.
Describing NG-CDF as the only hope for the poor, Masinga MP Joshua Mwalyo said that its impacts are visible at the grassroots level.
Additionally, Kitui Rural MP Rachel Nyamai asserted that discussions should focus on increasing the fund to enhance its benefits for the people.
