Chinese Ambassador to Kenya, Guo Haiyan, on Wednesday held a high-level meeting with Kenya’s Chief Justice and Supreme Court President, Martha Koome, aimed at deepening judicial cooperation and strengthening longstanding bilateral ties between the two countries.

During the meeting, held in Nairobi, both parties reaffirmed their shared commitment to deepening ties between the two nations’ judicial systems, focusing on promoting justice, upholding the rule of law, and supporting people-centred reforms.

Ambassador Guo underscored the importance of technical collaboration and mutual learning in shaping modern judicial systems that effectively respond to public needs.

“We discussed how to promote China-Kenya relations and enhance technical exchanges between our respective judicial systems,” said Ambassador Guo.

“We believe that through collaborative efforts and mutual learning, both countries can better promote the justice systems and bring more benefits to the people,” the envoy added.

The Ambassador expressed confidence that the evolving China-Kenya relationship, now anchored in shared development goals and mutual respect, would be further enriched through such institutional engagements.

Chief Justice Koome echoed similar sentiments, expressing appreciation for the long-standing ties between the two countries and highlighting the Judiciary’s openness to international cooperation that promotes justice reform.

“I was honoured to host a courtesy call by H.E. Madame Guo Haiyan, the Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Kenya,” said CJ Koome.

“Our discussions focused on strengthening and deepening the bonds of friendship and judicial cooperation between our two countries.”

She noted that the exchange offered a valuable opportunity to reflect on existing partnerships and explore new avenues of collaboration that support transformative justice.

“We reaffirmed our shared commitment to advancing justice, the rule of law, and people-centred judicial reforms,” she added.
