Team Kenya has achieved second place in the Cloud category at the Global Huawei ICT Competition held in Shenzhen, China.
The all-girl team consists of Ifrah Hussein and Beverly Ndombi from Moi University, along with Banzy from JKUAT.
This marks the 9th edition of Huawei’s ICT competition. Since its inception in 2015, over 960,000 students from more than 2,000 colleges and universities across 100 countries and regions have taken part.
Participants engage in hands-on labs, workshops, and real-world scenarios, guided by Huawei-certified instructors, as they learn about Huawei technologies in areas such as networking, cloud computing, and AI.
Fikirini Katoi Kahindi, Principal Secretary of the State Department of Youth and Creative Economy, accompanied the students to the finals.
The competition began on Tuesday, May 20, and concluded today, Saturday, May 24, with an awards ceremony. This year’s event featured four tracks: network, cloud, computing, and innovation, allowing students to showcase their expertise across a variety of technical areas.
The 2024-2025 competition, themed “Connection, Glory and Future,” has received an overwhelming response, attracting over 210,000 students and teachers from more than 2,000 colleges and universities across upwards of 100 countries and regions. Kenya was represented by 12 students who formed four teams.
