Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has assured the nation that Kenya is fully prepared to host the 2025 CHAN tournament, with robust security arrangements firmly in place to guarantee the safety of teams, officials, and fans.
Speaking after inspecting Kasarani and Nyayo stadiums alongside Sports Cabinet Secretary Salim Mvurya, Murkomen stated that the government has implemented comprehensive security measures as the country prepares to welcome teams from over 18 African nations.
“With over 18 African countries expected to participate, this tournament will showcase Kenya’s sporting prowess and hospitality before a global audience,” said CS Murkomen.
He confirmed that the Ministry of Interior has undertaken extensive security initiatives to safeguard the event, which include: the deployment of high-tech CCTV surveillance at all stadiums, controlled access points to manage crowd flow, dedicated emergency response teams on standby, and an enhanced presence of security personnel across key venues.
“We have implemented comprehensive measures to ensure the safety of participating teams, officials, and fans,” he noted.
In addition to security, he said the Interior Ministry has collaborated closely with immigration authorities to streamline visa processing and border controls, ensuring smooth entry for international delegations and CHAN guests.
“We have improved our systems,” he confirmed, noting that this will guarantee“minimal delays at our ports of entry.”
The Cabinet Secretary urged Kenyans to take pride in the tournament by turning out in large numbers to support visiting guests and help promote a positive image of the country.
“Let’s be at our best behavior because we are having visitors around. Some will mis directions and need to be guided. Let’s be courteous and make visitors feel at home. That’s who we are as Kenyans – very welcoming and hospitable,” the CS appealed.
