Anti-Narcotics Unit (ANU) detectives have arrested a trafficker, seizing heroin worth Ksh 1.19 million in a swift intelligence-led operation in Nakuru.
The suspect, 42-year-old Ephantus Kariuki Mwangi, was nabbed while riding a motorcycle (Reg. No. KMEC 785W), carrying luggage that raised red flags among detectives.
In a statement Wednesday, the DCI said that a search of the luggage uncovered 397 grams of heroin concealed for transport. They also recovered two syringes and needles, ten rolls of bhang, and three packets of Supermatch cigarettes.
“The arrest effectively cut short what detectives believe was an active drug supply run,” said the DCI.
The suspect is under police custody pending investigations ahead of his arraignment.
“The DCI remains firmly committed to dismantling drug trafficking networks through relentless operations and multi-agency collaboration. With zero tolerance for traffickers, regardless of status, we will ensure a safer, drug-free Kenya for all,” the statement read further.
Elsewhere, police have apprehended two individuals in connection with the fraudulent acquisition of a prime piece of land valued at approximately Ksh 5 billion in Mau Narok, Njoro Sub-County.
Investigations by detectives revealed that the piece of land, which measures around 4,296 acres, was purchased by the rightful owner from Class Kenya Farming Limited Settlement Fund Trustees for Ksh 5 million as documented in an agreement dated June 13, 1977, which was drawn up by T. K. Patel.
Following extensive investigations, the case file was submitted to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.
Upon thorough review, the ODPP directed that the suspects be charged with the following offences; conspiracy to commit a felony, forgery, forcible detainer, giving false information to a public servant, and false swearing.
Appearing before the Chief Magistrate’s Court Nakuru, the accused persons pleaded not guilty to the charges and were released on bond terms of Ksh 2 million with surety of similar amounts or Cashbail of Ksh 1 million each.
