Further Parliament approved the formation of a select committee to investigate impeachment charges against CS Linturi.

The 11-member select committee should comprise of six members from the majority side – Kenya Kwanza, four from the minority side and one from the Jubilee Party.

According to the National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula, the committee should probe the matter within 10 days.

“It should be noted as stated above that the Constitution requires the select Committee to conduct investigation and report within 10 days. In this regard, the parties should provide me with the names of the nominees not later than today.” Noted Wetangula.

In the special motion, Wamboka cited the following grounds for impeachment; Gross violation of the Constitution, gross misconduct as well as serious reasons for believing that the Cabinet Secretary has committed a crime under national law.

During the debate, Rarieda MP Otiende Amollo said: “I must confess that CS Linturi is my friend, and that’s why I’m supporting this motion. First of all, should the CS take responsibility for the motion and the issue at hand? The answer is yes… Someone has to take political responsibility, if we don’t go as high as the President, we must go as high as the Minister.”
