The Lamu Cultural Festival, which has been ongoing since Thursday, November 20, comes to a close on Saturday with a prize-giving ceremony at 4PM.

As expected, the people of Lamu have been happy to showcase their culture through activities such as the dhow and donkey races, artwork such as henna and woodwork, as well as net weaving from the fishermen of the island to an estimated 20,000 visitors according to the Governor of Lamu Issa Timamy.

In his speech at the Governor’s Gala held at the Lamu Polytechnic, Governor Timamy estimated that the county had made approximately KSh. 420M from the three-day event.

The Swahili cuisine on display at the festival is from over 40 Women’s self-help groups, most of whom preferred not to be on camera.
