Controversial gospel musician Alex Nyanchonga Apoko, popularly known as Ringtone, has finally appeared in court after a warrant of arrest was issued against him.

He is charged with conspiring to defraud a Nairobi woman of a parcel of land valued at KSh50 million.

Ringtone was arraigned before a Nairobi court on Thursday, where he faced accusations of attempting to fraudulently acquire land owned by Teresiah Adhiambo Odhiambo.

The property is located in Nairobi, though its exact location was not disclosed during the proceedings.

This marks the singer’s first appearance in court despite being entangled in several other legal disputes. His court appearance follows the issuance of a warrant for his arrest.

In court, Ringtone claimed he was unwell, prompting the magistrate to order a pre-bail report to assess his medical condition and determine whether he is fit to be released on bail. The report will also take into account his repeated failure to attend court in his other ongoing cases.

The court directed that he be remanded until Monday, May 20, when the pre-bail report will be presented and a decision on his bail application made.
