President William Ruto has left the country for the United States to attend the 80th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York.

According to a statement by State House Spokesperson Hussein Mohamed, President Ruto is expected to reaffirm Kenya’s commitment to multilateralism, push for reforms of the global financial system, and advocate fair access to development financing for developing countries during the summit.

He will also call for reforms within the United Nations to make it more inclusive and responsive to pressing global peace and security challenges, with a focus on Sudan, South Sudan, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Somalia, and Haiti.

The Head of State will participate in the Committee of Ten (C-10) Summit, where he will press Africa’s demand for reforms of the UN Security Council and underscore collaboration in pursuit of the Sustainable Development Goals.

Kenya will also host a high-level side event on Haiti to highlight experiences from the deployment of Kenyan troops under the Multinational Security Support Mission, aimed at shaping the next steps in international security interventions.

In his capacity as Chair of the African Union’s Committee of Heads of State and Government on Climate Change (CAHOSCC), President Ruto will convene talks to consolidate Africa’s position ahead of the COP30 climate summit in Belém, Brazil.

Further, the President will host a High-Level Breakfast on Affordable Housing, with more than 30 Heads of State and Government expected to attend, as he positions housing as a key pillar of social transformation.

On the sidelines of UNGA, President Ruto will also engage in bilateral talks with world leaders, development partners, and private sector executives to attract investments and secure partnerships in agriculture, technology, infrastructure, and energy under Kenya’s Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda.
