President William Ruto and his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Thursday held a joint call focusing on the Russia-Ukraine war and bilateral agreements between the two countries.

Revealing the details of their discussions, President William Ruto through his social media accounts said their talks focused on mutual interests and how the ongoing war has affected the two countries.

“I have had a fruitful phone conversation with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy of Ukraine, and discussed various issues of mutual interest between our two peoples and countries,” said Kenya’s Head of State.

On the war, President William Ruto expressed concern over young Kenyans who have been illegally recruited to fight in the war in Ukraine, and agreed to raise awareness of the dangers of such ventures.

He requested President Zelensky to facilitate the release of any Kenyan in Ukrainian custody.

“I am grateful to His Excellency for acceding to my appeal. I also commended President Zelensky for the Ukraine Food Summit his country is set to host later this month,” he said.

On his side, the Ukrainian President informed President Ruto about Russia’s attacks on people and infrastructure and thanked him for his support.

Zelenskyy also spoke about the bilateral relations and joint projects the two countries enjoy saying that their teams will continue working on them and the special attention to the issue of Ukrainian children.

“This month, at the United Nations, Ukraine will submit a resolution condemning Russia’s illegal abduction and deportation of Ukrainian children. I am grateful that we can count on Kenya’s support,” he said.
