Seven suspects linked to the July 3 arson attack on Mawego Police Station have been arraigned before the Oyugis Law Courts as detectives intensify investigations into the incident.

The suspects, Kennedy Oluoch, Nicholas Otieno, Tofiq Owiti Mohamed, Michael Omondi Opiyo, David Bill Clinton Otieno, Robert Ouko Abala, and Samuel Ouma Odhiambo, are believed to be the masterminds behind the coordinated attack that also involved other accomplices who are still at large.

The suspects were granted a seven-day custodial order to allow for the completion of ongoing investigations.

Authorities say the suspects were involved in malicious property damage and are treating the case as a serious threat to law enforcement infrastructure.

Investigators are also pursuing additional leads in a bid to apprehend more individuals believed to have played a role in the attack.

Mawego Police Station was set ablaze during the funeral procession of the late Albert Ojwang, who had initially been detained at the facility before being transferred to Central Police Station in Nairobi, where he died while in custody.
