State calls for calm as Odinga’s body set to be airlifted to Kisumu

Deputy President Kithure Kindiki and Siaya Senator Dr. Oburu Oginga has appealed to mourners in Kisumu and Siaya to remain calm and maintain peace during the homecoming of the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga’s body today.

Speaking in Karen the co-chairs of the National Committee for the State Funeral urged mourners to honor late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga’s memory with dignity and avoid any actions that could lead to confrontation with security agencies.

In Kisumu, members of the public will get a chance to view the body before he is buried on Sunday at his farm in Bondo.

Siaya Senator Dr. Oburu Oginga expressed disappointment over Thursday’s teargas incident at Kasarani Stadium, saying Odinga should not face similar scenes in death after enduring such experiences throughout his political life.

Dr. Oburu called on the public to mourn peacefully and allow everyone to pay their last respects without fear.

The late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga was eulogized as a selfless leader and seasoned opposition leader who shaped not only Kenya’s politics but Africa and the globe at large.  

Raila was categorically eulogized for fighting for Kenya’s politics from one political party system to multiparty democracy during the second liberation.

In an eulogy read by Jauko Oburu on behalf the family, the family said Raila was a leader who never waived in believe of his people’s rights during the championing for the new constitution.

The family also noted that despite his different political opinion with various state leaders, Raila was always ready to put aside his hardliner and embrace dialogue with interest of the country.

His absence on Kenya’s political scene will greatly be missed by many Kenyans.
