Lands, Housing and Urban Development Cabinet Secretary Alice Wahome has rebuked former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, accusing him of spreading lies and undermining leaders. She asserts that the former DP does not have the best interests of the Mt. Kenya region or the country at large.

Speaking at the Muruka shopping centre in Kandara constituency, where Gachagua had reportedly referred to her as a “flower girl” in President William Ruto’s Cabinet over the weekend, Wahome dismissed the remarks as baseless and disrespectful.

“Namwambia Rigathi Gachagua, hii siasa ya kuingilia viongozi wengine si ya uungwana na sio sawa. Tafuta kura kwa kusema yale utafanya. I have not sat down with him; I am not in his party or affiliation. I am serving the people of Kenya as Lands Minister,” she stated.

Wahome further revealed that her differences with Gachagua are not new, accusing him of persistently fighting her since his time as Deputy President.

“Mimi sijazungumzia mambo ya former Deputy President tangu atoke kwa serikali. Hata tukiwa kwa serikali na yeye, alikuwa ananisumbua. Yeye hajawahi ni-support. Alitaka kuniangusha kwa kazi yangu. Awachane na mimi,” the CS remarked.

The Lands CS reiterated her commitment to her ministry, highlighting her collaborative relationships with her Principal Secretaries and outlining several government projects under her docket, including modern market construction under the Economic Stimulus Programme, affordable housing initiatives, and the completion of Kandara Level 4 Bildad Kaggia Hospital.

In a fiery warning, Wahome made it clear that she would no longer tolerate attacks from Gachagua, insisting that he had crossed the line.

“Rigathi Gachagua anachokoza wengine akifikiria mimi nitamwogopa. Mimi si mmoja wa wale wanamwogopa. Amekanyaga laini yangu, na sasa ni mimi na yeye. Alisema eti mimi sina sauti kwa serikali. Yeye aende nyumbani pekee yake,” Wahome declared.

She dismissed the so-called “one-term” campaigns being promoted by some leaders, asserting that those advancing the narrative are the ones destined for political irrelevance. According to Wahome, President Ruto will be re-elected by a majority of Kenyans in 2027.

Wahome urged Gachagua, leader of the DCP, to respect fellow leaders and seek support based on his own agenda rather than attacking others.
