A total of 22 suspects have been arrested and dozens of bags of stolen fertiliser recovered in a police operation targeting looting incidents linked to recent protests.
In Igembe South, Meru County, police raided Luluma Village, Makiri area, and Maua Township leading to the arrest of eight suspects and the recovery of 63 bags of government-subsidised fertiliser believed to have been looted during the June 25 demonstrations.
Security officers also impounded a silver Toyota Probox and three motorcycles suspected to have been used to transport the stolen goods while eight bags of cement were also seized in the same raid.
In a separate operation in Malindi, Kilifi County, fourteen more suspects were arrested following a forensic probe that linked them to vandalism of property during the protests.
All 22 suspects are in custody and will be arraigned as investigations continue.
Police say more arrests and recoveries are expected in the coming days.
