A youth leader based in Nyandarua, has called on elected leaders to put an end to premature election campaigning and concentrate on fulfilling their responsibilities to the citizens.
In light of the heightened political climate, Chege Wamaratu stressed the importance of national unity, peace, and responsible leadership, warning against the danger of entering an early electioneering phase.
“This is not the time for politics, it is time to work. We call on all elected leaders—from Members of Parliament to MCAs—to focus on service delivery rather than crisscrossing the country in endless political rallies,” Wamaratu stated.
He specifically appealed to former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and the Opposition to grant President William Ruto the necessary space and time to implement his development agenda, stating that ongoing politicking hinders progress and diverts attention from pressing national issues.
“When the Former Deputy President moves around the country with MPs and MCAs when are these leaders going to work,?” he charged
“Let us allow the President to do his work. Kenya needs development, not endless political noise,” he added.
Wamaratu also condemned the violence and destruction that occurred during the anti-government protests on June 25, reaffirming the youth’s commitment to peace and national stability.
“We value peace. We urge Gen Z and all young people to safeguard our country’s stability. Demonstrating is a right, but turning protests into looting and violence is unacceptable,” he said.
At the same time, he urged the government to continue addressing urgent youth issues, particularly unemployment.
