Harambee Stars are set to earn at least KSh 25.8 million for their participation in the 8th African Nations Championship (CHAN), to be held between 2nd and 30th August in Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania.

According to prize money details released by the Confederation of African Football (CAF), a record prize fund of KSh 1.3 billion ($10.4 million) is available for this year’s tournament, representing a 32% increase from the KSh 1.02 billion ($7.9 million) awarded during the 2023 edition in Algeria.

The tournament champions will take home KSh 452.2 million ($3.5 million), a 75% rise from the KSh 258.4 million ($2 million) Senegal received after winning the last edition in 2022.

The runners-up will receive KSh 155 million ($1.2 million), while the third and fourth-placed teams will collect KSh 90.4 million ($700,000) and KSh 77.5 million ($600,000) respectively.

Teams finishing third in Groups ‘A’, ‘B’, and ‘C’, each consisting of five teams along with the third-placed side in Group ‘D’, will each earn KSh 38.7 million ($300,000).

The four losing quarter-finalists are also guaranteed KSh 58.1 million ($450,000) apiece.

Harambee Stars, placed in Group ‘A’, are assured of at least KSh 25.8 million ($200,000) even if they finish bottom of the group.

However, advancing to third place or better would significantly boost their earnings from the tournament.

Kenya will play two-time champions DRC next Sunday at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani, in the Group A opening fixture.

Other teams in the same group as Harambee Stars include two-time winners Morocco, Zambia, and Angola.

Tanzania will face Burkina Faso in the tournament opener this Saturday, 2nd August, at the Benjamin Mkapa National Stadium in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.
