Residents of Olooloitikoshi in Kajiado County are decrying loss of investment and employment opportunities following the failure by Orly Airpark to allow extension of a runway to accommodate larger aircrafts.
Community leaders have given the directors of the company a seven-day ultimatum to address seven point issues they have raised with the management.
According to community leaders, the facility has been in operation for more than two decades with little to show. The aerodrome which is privately run also hosts the Kenya School of Flying.
However, according to Olooloitikoshi residents, the facility has failed to meet agreements they struck nine years ago.
Among grievances by residents is the refusal by the facility to extend one of the runways, runway 7, to allow for larger aircrafts, which is denying them the much needed employment and investment opportunities.
However responding to the accusations, Orly Airpark Chairperson Christian Strebel said, “In the last general meeting held in April this year, shareholders decided not to extend runway 07.
It was a decision made by shareholders.” Isinya Deputy County Commissioner Michael Yator says the government is seized of the matter.
