KDF recruitment for General Duty recruits concludes as VCDF tours Kikuyu Centre

The nationwide Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) recruitment exercise for General Duty Recruits has officially come to a close.

The Vice Chief of the Defence Forces, Lieutenant General John Omenda, today toured the Kikuyu Recruitment Centre in Kiambu County, where he expressed satisfaction with the exercise.

The VCDF who was received by Senior Recruiting Officer Lieutenant Colonel Awuonda, commended the orderly conduct of the exercise and the impressive turnout witnessed across the country.

Lt Gen Omenda reaffirmed that KDF remains committed to fairness and transparency, offering equal opportunities to young Kenyans aspiring to serve in the military.

The VCDF noted that with the General Duty phase now complete, the next category, Tradesmen and Women, will begin their recruitment process early next month.

Successful candidates have already been notified to report to Lang’ata Barracks from the 3rd of November for interviews and further processing.

He also revealed that shortlisting for General Service Officer Cadets, Graduate Cadets, and Specialist Officers has been finalized, with candidates informed of their reporting details.

Lt Gen Omenda outlined that GSO Cadets will undergo three years of intensive training at the Kenya Military Academy leading to a degree in Military Science and Security Studies.

Graduate Cadets will train for one year, while Specialist Officers, including doctors, engineers, and chaplains, will undertake shorter, specialized courses.

Successful General Duty Recruits and Tradesmen and Women will later report to the Recruit Training School in Eldoret for basic military training.

Speaking during the visit, Lt Col Awuonda congratulated the successful candidates and officially welcomed them to the service, noting that their journey of commitment and patriotism has just begun.

Lt Gen Omenda, in his address to the recruits, urged them to uphold discipline, dedication, and perseverance as they begin their military careers, reminding them that service to the nation requires sacrifice and pride.

The conclusion of the General Duty recruitment marks the end of the first phase of the 2025 KDF recruitment exercise, with the next categories set to follow in the coming weeks.
