Senegal coach Thiaw suspended for 5 matches for AFCON final chaos

Senegalese coach Pape Thiaw has been suspended for five matches and ordered to pay a fine of USD 100,000 for misconduct during his team’s AFCON final against Morocco on the 18th of this Month at the Prince Moulay Abdellah stadium.

The Confederation African  (“CAF”) Disciplinary Board imposed sanctions on the Senegalese Football federation (FSF), Royal Morrocan Footbal(FRMF), some  players and officials for the incidents during the Final, which violated the CAF Disciplinary Code.

Senegalese forwards Iliman Cheikh Baroy Ndiaye  and Ismaila  Sarr have been suspended for two matches each , for their unsporting behaviour towards the referee .

Equally CAF has fined FSF, a total of USD 615,000 for the improper conduct of its supporters, which brought the game into disrepute in violation of the CAF Disciplinary Code principles of fair play and integrity and unsporting conduct of their players and technical staff in violation of the CAF Disciplinary Code principles of fair play, loyalty and integrity.

 


CAF has as equally  suspend Moroccan captain Achraf Hakimi for two matches, with one match being suspended for one (1) year for his unsporting behavior while his team mate Ismaël Saibari  will serve a three matches  suspension for his unsporting behavior and pay a fine of USD 100,000.

FRMF has also been fined USD 200,000, for the inappropriate behavior of the stadium’s ball boys during the aforementioned match and another USD 100,000 for the improper conduct of their National Team players and technical staff, who invaded the VAR review area and obstructed the referee’s work, in violation of the principles of fair play and integrity, as stated in Articles 82 and 83 of the CAF Disciplinary Code.

FRMF will pay a fine of USD 15,000 for the use of lasers by its supporters during the aforementioned match.

However,CAF rejected FRMF’s plea of having Senegal stripped off the tittle following the chaos.

The AFCON final stopped for nearly 15 minutes when the Senegalese players walked off the pitch after the referee awarded Morocco a last minute penalty.

Senegal won the final 1-0 to lift the their 2nd AFCON trophy.
