City lawyer Alphonce Collins Odoyo Osewe was Wednesday arraigned at the Milimani Law Courts over a gold scam running into millions of shillings.
Osewe and his accomplice are accused of obtaining Ksh 69M from a complainant by falsely pretending that they were in a position to sell gold bars.
He was charged with obtaining the sum by false pretences contrary to Section 313 of the Penal Code.
Osewe was arrested by detectives from the DCI Nairobi Regional Office within the precincts of the Milimani Law Courts after evading police dragnet for some time.
This followed the cancellation of the cash bail previously deposited and the issuance of an arrest warrant after he failed to honour court summons in October last year.
Following his arrest, the suspect was presented before the Chief Magistrate’s Court at Milimani, where he pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The court ordered that he be remanded in custody pending the determination of his bail application.
