The Agriculture Ministry is now assuring farmers there are enough quality fertilizers in government stores and markets.

Agriculture Principal Secretary Kiprono Rono while appearing before the Senate Agriculture Committee assured Kenyans the Ministry had sealed loopholes that had led to the supply of substandard fertilizer.

The Agriculture Committee invited the Agriculture Principal Secretary to engage on the status of the agriculture sector after the Ministry was marred with allegations of supply of substandard fertilizer.

The PS revealed the government was in the process of establishing the Agricultural Development Fund that will safeguard monies for farm inputs.

Meanwhile, the National Assembly Public Accounts Committee has given the State Department of Mining one month to provide a recovery plan for long outstanding arrears owed by various cement companies to the government.

Mining PS Elijah Mwangi also told MPs the Ministry had gazetted 24 artisanal mining committees across the country that are critical in the issuance and renewal of licenses to miners.
