Grammy-winning Kenyan artiste Bien Aimé Baraza is in New York City promoting his solo career and most recent album ‘Alusa Why Are You Topless?’
The Sauti Sol frontman was featured on The Breakfast Club, where he shared stories about his transition from Sauti Sol to his solo career.
‘‘After doing something for a long time, I think it was time for us to try and see what the other side looks like. It’s been beautiful so far, and I think we needed this break,’’ he shared when asked about his decision to go solo.
Bien addressed a question that’s been on many people’s minds: why East African music hasn’t achieved the same global breakthrough as West African sounds.
He said, “It’s never been funded. Any music that you hear in the West is marketing dollars spent to get the music there. For a long time, East Africa hasn’t had that limelight.”
Bien later switched gears and stopped by the Belaire headquarters, where he showcased his bartending skills on Cocktail hour by mixing his signature drink, the ‘Bald Man’s Safari.’
The cocktail combines McQueen and the Violet Fog gin, Belair Gold and lemonade.
