The Bobea Leadership Awards Secretariat has officially announced the nominees for the 2026 Bobea Leadership Awards, initiating one of Kenya’s most extensive recognition programmes for governance and public leadership.
The awards acknowledge performance, accountability, legislative effectiveness, and citizen impact across various leadership tiers. They encompass 25 competitive categories, spanning national government, county governments, regional leadership, media, civil society, and community transformation.
According to the Secretariat, nominees were chosen after several weeks of public nominations and a data-driven vetting process conducted by the Bobea Awards Secretariat and Selection Committee.
Speaking during the unveiling, Dr. Geoffrey Simita, Chairperson of the Selection Committee, stated that the awards aim to bolster accountability and highlight leaders who achieve measurable results.
“Bobea Leadership Awards 2026 is not just an event. It is Kenya’s scorecard for leadership. From Cabinet Secretaries to MCAs, from EALA to Community Change Makers, we are documenting who delivers, who protects public resources, and who inspires the next generation,” Dr. Simita explained.
Among the highly competitive categories is the Best Performing MP – NG-CDF Management award, featuring nominees such as Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro, Kasipul MP Boyd Were, Teso South MP Mary Emase, Kimilili MP Didmus Barasa, Malindi MP Amina Mnyazi, Mogotio MP Reuben Kiborek, and Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichung’wah.
The Best Performing Senator on Oversight category also includes prominent figures like Kericho Senator and Senate Majority Leader Aaron Cheruiyot, Tana River Senator Danson Mungatana, Kisumu Senator Tom Ojienda, Homa Bay Senator Moses Kajwang, Isiolo Senator Fatuma Dullo, Migori Senator Eddy Oketch, Narok Senator Ledama Ole Kina, and Kirinyaga Senator James Murango.
In the Cabinet category, nominees for Best Performing Cabinet Secretary include Mining and Blue Economy CS Ali Hassan Joho, Public Service CS Geoffrey Ruku, Defence CS Soipan Tuya, EAC and ASAL CS Beatrice Askul Moe, Agriculture CS Mutahi Kagwe, Roads and Transport CS Davis Chirchir, Lands CS Alice Wahome, and Health CS Aden Duale.
The awards have also introduced several new categories to broaden public participation and regional representation. These include Best EALA Legislator 2026, which now covers all eight East African Community partner states; Impersonators Crown, recognising creatives who use satire and mimicry in public discourse, and Political Party of Choice, where Kenyans will vote for parties they believe best represent transformational leadership.
Nominees for the Political Party Leadership category are drawn from major political formations including ODM, UDA, Wiper, DAP-K, DCP, Jubilee, KANU, and NEDP.
Media and public communication are also recognised through categories such as Best Political Analyst, Most Trusted News Source, and Most Informative Show. The awards additionally spotlight emerging leaders through the Beacon of New Leadership categories. Male nominees in this category include media personalities and civic voices.
Three Honorary Lifetime Achievement Awards will be presented to distinguished individuals who have significantly contributed to governance, development, and social progress in Kenya.
Public voting commenced on Wednesday, 3 June 2026, at 8:00 am and will conclude on Wednesday, 11 June 2026, at 11:59 pm. Organisers confirm that participation is free and accessible via the official Bobea Leadership Awards voting portal.
The awards ceremony will culminate in a black-tie gala dinner on Friday, 4 July 2026, at the Catholic University of Eastern Africa Auditorium in Nairobi. The event is expected to gather senior government officials, governors, senators, members of parliament, MCAs, EALA legislators, CEOs, civil society actors, and grassroots leaders.
Organisers state that the Bobea Leadership Awards is an independent platform dedicated to promoting ethical leadership, performance-based governance, and accountability through public participation and data-backed evaluation systems.
